Elecampane is used for getting rid of intestinal worms, to eliminate water retention, and to lessen tooth decay and firm the gums. It gives relief to all respiratory ailments. The dried root made into powder, and mixed with sugar, and taken, is helpful for those who have their urine stopped, or stone in the kidneys, or bladder; it resists poison, and stops the spreading of the venom of snakes. The roots and herbs beaten and put into new ale or beer, and daily drank, clears, and strengthens the eyesight. Externally it is used as a wash for wounds, itching rashes, and is excellent as a general face cleanser. It is burned to repel insects.
